Katie Dobson Cundiff Biography

Katie Cundiff acquired an early appreciation for the fine arts, drawing, and painting, under the tutelage of artist parents.  Early works resulted in scholarships from National Scholastics Magazine and the Croatian Fraternal Union, earning a B.A. in Fine Arts and Painting from Ringling College of Art and Design.  A love of the out of doors combined with painting has produced numerous awards and recognition in plein air events.  My work also includes still life, figurative, and wildlife, and has been featured on apparel and print for Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Unlimited, The Billfish Foundation, Sarari Clubs International, and Gulf Coast Conservation Association.

A member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Plein Air Painters of the Southeast (PAP-SE), and a signature member of American Women Artists, Women Painters of the Southeast, and Plein Air Florida, my work has been featured in American Art Collector, American Artists Magazine,  Southwest Art, and at the Museum of Florida Art and Culture in Sebring, Florida.  Juried exhibits and awards include those of  Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, Women Painters of the Southeast, Cumberland Society of Oil Painters, and American Impressionists.  I am currently represented by Coconut Grove Gallery of Fine Art, Coconut Grove, FL, John Collette Gallery in Cashiers, NC, J Gallery in High Point and Raliegh, NC, Gallerie on Broad in Charleston, SC, Gallery on Fifth in Naples, FL, and Tarapani's Fine Art and Antiques in Tarpon Springs, FL.  I currently teach figure drawing at RCAD and give monthly plein air workshops in oils in Sarasota, Florida.

Katie Dobson Cundiff Statement

I am primarily a landscape artist, although I enjoy painting many different subjects including portraits and figurative, animals, still life, rural landscapes, boats, and urban scenes.  I think my work differs from that of other artists because of the influence and instruction I received from my father.  As a child, I loved to sit and watch him work on his illustrations, and would often pose for him.  He would let me look through his art books and by the time I was a teenager, we had long discussions on art and artists.  He showed me the works of master artists Degas, Lautrec, Sargent, Sorolla, and Zorn (to name a few). Frequent visits to the Art Institute provided me the opportunity to study these and other great painters. This strong foundation in drawing and painting, and exploring the works of fine art masters has been the most important element in my journey and quest to becoming a "painter of life".
