Painting the Landscape

You will discuss the fundamentals of plein air painting as well as more advanced topcis like color theory and strategies for working outdoors. 

Day one of the workshop will begin with a 30-minute lecture and discussion on the core concepts of plein air painting. This will be followed by a 2.5hour painting demonstration. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lecture and demonstration. The class will then break for lunch. Afterwards, students will begin work on their own paintings while Marc gives individualized instruction to each student. Class will end at 4pm, but students may continue to paint if they wish. Days 2 and 3 will beging with a quick recap followed by a 3hour demonstration. After a 1-hour lunch break, students will again spread out to tackle their own paintings. Marc will continue to make the rounds giving one-on-one instruction. The class will end with a group critique and discussion.     

While Marc's love of the landscape is evident in his work, a keen observer will see his endeavor to capture authentic light and how it brings life to each piece. This dedication to craft has not gone unnoticed- in 2021, Marc was included in the "Top 10 Artists to Collect Now" special feature in Plein Air Magazine. His work has also garnered awards from prestigious shows around the country including a Gold Medal Award from the Oil Painters of America Easter Regional Exhibition as well as the Dorothy Driehaus Mellin Fellowship and Artists Choice Award at the OPA National Exhibition.
