OIL PORTRAIT WORKSHOP

Proficient in both watercolors and oils Mary O. has chosen to conduct this workshop in oils. 

 

In this class you will study proportion of features and basic placement of the portrait on canvas. Mary O will be using photo references of yours and hers, to paint and discuss how to paint portraits and get a likeness. 

 

She will be demonstrating in steps that students can follow and practice in their own paintings

 

This is a 3-day workshop in which Mary O will give a lot of individual help to students. Your goal will be to get loose and free with your backgrounds and incorporate the subjects’ details into the oil sketch.

 

.  Learning basic color mixing for the portrait

.  Integrate the figure with the background

.  Practicing the use of negative shapes

.  Learning some tips to make your portraits realistic and manageable.

.  Demos, discussions and helpful critiques

Registrations are not taken on-line at this time.

Studio Location: Artists Annex Gallery.100 Sylvan, #170.

 

A $100 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration to confirm your space. 

Checks are requested, but you may also pay by credit card at the time of registration.


The balance of the workshop fee is due 30 days in advance of the workshop.The gallery will send an alert email of balances due.


What to Expect:


The evening before (the beginning date of the workshop), the gallery will host a casual meet and greet, giving you the opportunity to meet your fellow students and the instructor. This is also a good time to unload your supplies at the Annex so you're ready for the morning start.

 

Everyone is invited to an early dinner at a near-by restaurant. Everyone pays their own check.


Workshop size is generally limited to 10-12 students.


Classes begin at  9AM  and adjourn at  4PM.


Lunches can be ordered in advance through the gallery from a nearby restaurant. 

A menu selection will be sent to you to make your selections. You can order for one to all days. Generally, the check for lunches is made out directly to the restaurant.

Lodging:

 

St Simons is a busy resort island. Be sure you make your hotel reservations early. The Island is only 14 miles long, so nothing is too far away. We can send you some suggestions or feel free to call us for help with your travel.
