In this workshop you will merge the knowledge of the fundamentals of classical landscape painting as a foundation, combined with the understanding of the basic principles and elements of the abstraction in order to loosen up. Pushing one's landscape paintings with a variety of mediums and tools as a way to control and explore beyond the basics, as well as heavy analysis on modifying design and composition to push outside the obvious. Beginning with emphasis on mark-making, color theory, color notes, and sketches, and ending with demonstrations and discussions on the pursuit and struggles of a larger scale painting. Experimenting with Cold Wax Medium as an addition to oil paint will be covered in order to add texture, layering and mark making.

This workshop will take place on the beautiful Amelia Island where pristine beaches meet lush, verdant landscapes, and the tranquil atmosphere of the island envelops everyone in a sense of peace and focus. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the island. The Omni Amelia Island Oak Marsh Clubhouse will be our painting location for three days. A Meet & Greet at the clubhouse the afternoon before the workshop starts will allow attendees to drop off their supplies, set up their workspace and meet fellow artists. The combination of inspiring learning and relaxing surroundings promises a truly memorable and rejuvenating experience.

The understanding of fundamental artistic skills can allow one to capture the essence of the landscape by simplification of color, shape, and pattern; in turn, redefining the idea and presentation of reality." – Chris Groves
