Exploring the Landscape Within: Join Paul Batch for a three-day workshop designed to help you push beyond simply copying reference photos and begin crafting more intentional, expressive landscape paintings. Working from outdoor reference material – including sketches, plein air studies, and photographs – you'll learn how to reimagine and reshape what you see to better serve your painting's mood, composition, and message.

Each day will include multiple demonstrations, as well as plenty of individual guidance tailored to your goals and experience level. We'll discuss strategies for combining multiple references, simplifying values and shapes, and using your brushwork and palette to evoke atmosphere and emotion.

Whether you are working in oils or another medium, you'll leave this workshop with a stronger foundation for building compelling, personal landscapes in the studio – plus new tools to help you translate inspiration into finished work.

This workshop is open to all level and mediums, though instruction will focus primarily on oil painting.

Paul Batch:

Artist to watch - Fine Art Today / Fine Art Connoisseur

Paul Batch's plein air sketches and finished studio landscapes certainly stand out from the crowd. Although this artist has a full-palette flexibility, he often choose to work with a limited number of colors in a tighter range, which creates a depth of atmosphere, radiant realistic light, and stunning color combinations not easily replicated. Applying paint with a skilled hand and a range of brush sizes and types, Batch also uses palette knives and razor blades to achieve abstract lines, shapes, and colors that harmonize with more painterly passages.

Born in Massachusetts and currently residing in Georgia, Batch received both a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. from the Hartford School at the University of Hartford (Connecticut) and has been a full-time artist ever since. Although he paints portraits and other subjects, he is best known as a landscapist as well as a popular teacher.
